Civic Topology

A systems view of issues, causes, and consequences — and why they matter.

Civic Topology is a living map of interconnected public issues. It begins with clear, neutral definitions — then follows the chains of cause and effect, highlighting where problems originate, how they reinforce each other, and what deeper values are at stake.

Rather than presenting isolated debates or surface-level fixes, this project is designed to show the structure behind the symptoms:

  • What leads to a crisis like homelessness?
  • How does housing policy ripple through economic and mental health outcomes?
  • Where do good intentions loop back and create new failures?

Each issue also links to core human values using Moral Foundations Theory, offering insight into why these problems matter — and why different people react to them so differently.

Whether you’re a policymaker, activist, writer, or simply curious, this space is here to help you think in systems.
